Thoreau says to "sell your clothes and keep your thoughts" meaning that we should be rid of worldly posessions in favor of the fruits of the mind, and I agree with him. While many in our society think that being in material poverty is to be in the slop of society, Thoreau proposes that all we need to be content are the basic necessities and our thoughts, preferably surrounded by the sacredness of Nature. "Humility like darkness reveals the heavenly lights" as when we have little we learn to appreciate the good jn what we have and come to know what we need over what we want. In this way, the only way to buy the necessary of the soul is not through payment if money, but by paying in time and thought on what it is the soul requires.
