Economy 10/6

6. Thoreau complains that most people live a life of hard work without questioning it. Why do they do this?

Thoreau says that people live a life of hard work because they are working so that they will have time in the future to enjoy and pursue their own interests. However, most people end up working their entire lives working towards the future without ever enjoying the present and at the same time never stopping their work once the future does come. They don't question their way of life since all of their fellow man works the same and for mostly the same reason. They also work to provide for their families and but the modern "necessities" they are told to as they work as cogs in the unfeeling machine of society.
